The 2018 911 GT2 RS is here and critics are stating it is the fastest road-going Porsche ever built, and with a turbocharged 700-horsepower 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine, it’s not hard to see why. In fact, its top speed reaches an unbelievable 211 mph.
Over the years, Porsche has produced some incredibly memorable 911 models, such as the 997 Carrera S and the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 which saw the rebirth of the 911 in the eighties and carried Porsche through times of instability and uncertainty.
So what are the new 911 GT2 RS’s most impressive features and could it be a future icon of its era?
As well at its colossal top speed, this latest 911 model boasts an impressive 0-60mph time of 2.7 seconds. The GT2 also has four-wheel, rear-axle steering for improved cornering. This means, at lower speeds, the back wheels turn in the slight opposite direction to the front wheels for more controlled cornering, while at higher speeds they turn in the same direction for a more stable drive.
Another remarkable feature of the GT2 is how lightweight it is, at just 1,470kg it weighs in at around the same as a Ford Focus. Porsche have opted for some non-invasive but insightful weight-loss methods, such as using titanium for the exhaust, magnesium for the roof and carbon fibre for the bonnet, wings, mirrors and wheel vents.
Despite these savings on weight, the supercar won’t be light on your pocket with a starting price of £230,000. However, this hasn’t stopped the model from selling out already, despite the car not being ready for delivery until Autumn.
Here at Porsche Conversions in Essex, we’re excited to see what the latest 911 model’s legacy will be and how Porsche can continue to engineer these supercars to become more powerful and stylish every time.
